SVG vs AVIF

AVIF makes the smallest file of the four and keeps transparency, so it suits large, detailed illustrations on a fast website. Older apps may not open it, so use PNG if you’re not sure.

About the two formats

SVG

SVG describes shapes, lines and text as drawing instructions instead of pixels, so it stays perfectly sharp at any size and is often tiny. The catch is that many places, such as social media profiles, email signatures and some upload forms, only accept regular images like PNG or JPG.

AVIF

AVIF uses compression from the AV1 video codec and usually makes the smallest image files of any common format. Browser support is broad, but desktop apps are still catching up.

How to sVG to AVIF

  1. 1Add your SVG files.
  2. 2Adjust the quality if you like.
  3. 3Download the AVIF files.

Questions

Do my files get uploaded?

No. SVG to AVIF runs entirely in your browser, so your files never leave your device. Close the tab and they're gone.

Is it really free?

Yes. No account, no daily limits and no watermark on your files.

Will everyone be able to open an AVIF?

Current browsers can. Some older apps and upload forms can’t, so PNG is the safer choice for sharing.
