PNG vs JPG

JPG is the right format for photos that were saved as PNG, such as camera exports or screenshots of photos, and the size drop is dramatic. Two trade-offs: transparent areas turn white, and very sharp text or line art can get soft edges.

About the two formats

PNG

PNG stores every pixel exactly, with no quality loss, and supports transparent backgrounds. That makes it ideal for graphics and screenshots, but photos saved as PNG are very large.

JPG

JPG is the default format for photos. It throws away detail the eye barely notices to keep files small, and every device made in the last 30 years can open it.

How to convert PNG to JPG

  1. 1Add your PNG files.
  2. 2Adjust the quality if you like.
  3. 3Download the JPG files.

Questions

Do my files get uploaded?

No. PNG to JPG runs entirely in your browser, so your files never leave your device. Close the tab and they're gone.

Is it really free?

Yes. No account, no daily limits and no watermark on your files.

What happens to a transparent background?

JPG can’t store transparency, so it becomes white. Use PNG to WebP instead if you need to keep it.
