PNG vs WebP
WebP keeps transparency, so it suits logos and screenshots as well as photos, and it’s usually far smaller than the PNG. It’s a good default for any image going on a website.

About the two formats
PNG
PNG stores every pixel exactly, with no quality loss, and supports transparent backgrounds. That makes it ideal for graphics and screenshots, but photos saved as PNG are very large.
WebP
WebP was built to make web images smaller than JPG and PNG at the same quality. Websites use it widely, which is why images you save from the web are often WebP.
