JPG vs PNG

Converting a JPG to PNG won’t sharpen it or bring back detail the JPG already discarded; PNG simply stores the pixels exactly as they are now. Do it when an app or form insists on PNG, or before editing a graphic you’ll save many times, because PNG doesn’t lose quality with each save. Expect a much bigger file.

About the two formats

JPG

JPG is the default format for photos. It throws away detail the eye barely notices to keep files small, and every device made in the last 30 years can open it.

PNG

PNG stores every pixel exactly, with no quality loss, and supports transparent backgrounds. That makes it ideal for graphics and screenshots, but photos saved as PNG are very large.

How to convert JPG to PNG

  1. 1Add your JPG files.
  2. 2Adjust the quality if you like.
  3. 3Download the PNG files.

Questions

Do my files get uploaded?

No. JPG to PNG runs entirely in your browser, so your files never leave your device. Close the tab and they're gone.

Is it really free?

Yes. No account, no daily limits and no watermark on your files.

Will converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. PNG keeps the image exactly as it is, including any blur or blockiness from the JPG. It just stops further loss when you edit and save again.
