HEIC vs WebP

WebP is the better target if the photo is going on a website: it opens in every current browser and is much smaller than a JPG of the same quality.

About the two formats

HEIC

HEIC is the format iPhones save photos in by default. It keeps photos small, but many computers, websites and forms still can’t open it.

WebP

WebP was built to make web images smaller than JPG and PNG at the same quality. Websites use it widely, which is why images you save from the web are often WebP.

How to convert HEIC to WebP

  1. 1Add your HEIC files.
  2. 2Adjust the quality if you like.
  3. 3Download the WebP files.

Questions

Do my files get uploaded?

No. HEIC to WebP runs entirely in your browser, so your files never leave your device. Close the tab and they're gone.

Is it really free?

Yes. No account, no daily limits and no watermark on your files.

Will my photo lose visible quality?

At the default 85% quality the difference is very hard to see. Raise the slider for archive copies.
